EDUCATIONAL GUIDE
Talking intimacy and sexuality on the radio

Do you work with young adults? Would you like to lead workshops on sexual education? Do you like radio and listening to podcasts?

Discover SNAP’s guide to  leading audio production  workshops on themes such as intimacy, love and sexuality for young people. We introduce the steps with 4 pedagogical videos – each one showing an activity created by the SNAP team,  as well as step-by-step explanations on how to carry workshops out.

Our methodology invites young adults to create radio content (such as radio programmes, unique podcasts or radio dramas) on topics related to emotional and sexual life, in order to allow their voices and stories to be heard.

Our videos are designed for mentors and  facilitators  who work with young adults to guide them through the process: social workers, journalists, volunteers in radio associations, feminist activists or educators in sexual and emotional life.

Would you like to lead this type of workshop? If so, don’t hesitate to watch our videos and to consult our manuals and method sheets on the project’s website: www.snap-podcast.eu

Toolkit: Facilitating radio workshops on issues of sexual and emotional life experience.

This toolkit consists of video lessons and a manual of method sheets to facilitate radio workshops on the topics of emotional and sexual life with young adults. Through our activities, we would like to increase young people’s awareness of these themes to make them aware of differences and to make their voices and voices heard through radio. Our activities stem  from an inclusive and in-formal educational  approach. This toolkit is designed for professionals and volunteers involved with young adults: social workers, journalists, volunteers in radio associations, feminist activists and educators.

DEGREES OF INTIMACY
Activity suggested by Elan Interculturel

This activity encourages participants to learn more about their relationship with intimacy: What is intimacy for them? Is it the same for their partner? Through different steps the activity invites participants to express themselves through the  microphone. By listening to other people’s stories, the whole group is made aware of the differences and understands that there are many interpretations and types of intimacy. The activity also draws attention to the importance of communication between partners in order to better understand each other and to ensure respect for each other.

INTERVIEWING AN EXPERT ON ISSUES RELATED TO GENDER, SEXUAL AND AFFECTIVE LIFE
Activity suggested by Wired FM

This activity invites participants to create a radio program based on a meeting with an expert on themes of gender, sexuality and intimacy. Discover our advice and step-by-step instructions to best prepare for these types of interviews.

CROSS INTERVIEW ON PATRIARCHY
Activity suggested by Jouïr

The activity invites participants to tell and act out stories of experiences in dealing with patriarchy – microphone in hand. Even when a person’s situation has not yet found a solution, the telling of it is deemed a victory! The method allows people to express themselves and to be listened to, but it also stimulates collective discussions on issues related to  patriarchy.

RECOMMANDATIONS FOR FACILITATORS
Activity suggested by SkaSka

In this video, we give you some recommendations for making your workshops a space where participants feel comfortable and safe. Indeed, workshops exploring topics such as intimacy, love and sexuality can trigger sensitive spots and painful memories. As the facilitator is not a health professional and does not have a therapeutic role to play, it is important to provide an appropriate setting for participants. We offer here a set of tips to ensure that participants leave the workshop without feeling weakened. If, despite everything, the workshop should awaken painful memories, you’ll find some recommendations to deal with these stories.

THE MANUAL
Facilitating radio workshops on the topic of emotional and sexual life.

We welcome you to consult this manual and discover the pedagogical activities that will allow you to explore intimacy, love and sexuality through radio practice. Our methodology is inspired by non-formal education and sex education.

Regarding the second field, our methods encourage the participants to have a better knowledge of themselves, of their desires and their limits. Our wish is to promote  positive sexuality and fulfilling interpersonal relationships. Through the radio tools, the young participants can express themselves, better understand themselves and make their challenges and uniqueness heard.

You will find, among other information, the following :

• Recommendations to establish a safe environment for everyone
• Icebreakers and energisers to create an intimate and playful atmosphere
• Activities to explore gender identity, sexual orientation, discrimination and the question of pleasure in sexuality and intimacy.

Enjoy !
